We are continuously working to reduce the stigma surrounding pilot mental health and mental illness. Our work with Pilot Peer Support involves talking about current topics in the aviation industry that impacts the mental wellness and health of Pilots. Qualified Pilot Peer Support professionals can help through counselling & coaching.
Prioritize sleep and aim for seven to nine hours each night. Sleep plays an important role in your physical health. Sleep is involved in healing and repair of your heart and blood vessels. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke
Try mindfulness exercises such as yoga or guided meditation. Practicing meditation at home can transfer to the cockpit as the pilot learns to pair invasive thoughts with calming down. As meditation enhances the ability to stay in the moment, advocates say that meditation can even improve situational awareness
Connect with your community online. Opening up to a trusted peer can help you to feel listened to and supported. Just acknowledging your feelings by saying them out loud can help.
Practice self-care by reflecting on the good at the end of each day
